DTH Remote Not Working? Fix It in Five Minutes, or Replace It for Rs 399
A dead remote makes a perfectly good connection unusable, and it is easy to assume the set-top box has failed. It almost never has. Work through these in order before buying anything.
Five checks, in order
- Replace the batteries with a fresh pair. Not swapped from another remote, not rolled between your fingers - a genuinely new pair. Weak batteries produce exactly the symptom people describe as "sometimes it works": the remote responds from very close range and not from the sofa.
- Check the battery contacts. Look for green or white corrosion on the springs. Scrape it off gently with a dry cloth or a fingernail. This is a surprisingly common cause and costs nothing to fix.
- Test whether the remote is transmitting. Point it at your phone's front camera and press a button while watching the screen. A working infrared remote shows a faint purple-white flash on the camera that your eye cannot see. No flash means the remote is genuinely dead.
- Check what is between you and the box. Infrared needs line of sight. A closed cabinet door, a soundbar, a vase or a stack of things in front of the box will block it. Clear the front of the box and try again.
- Restart the set-top box. Switch it off at the wall for thirty seconds, then back on. If the box has frozen it will ignore a perfectly good remote, and this is the fix.
If the camera test showed no flash
The remote has failed and no amount of pairing will bring it back. A replacement is far cheaper than a new connection - the box, dish and subscription are all still fine.
| Your box | Replacement remote | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Tata Play | Tata Play Remote | Rs 399 (MRP Rs 699) |
| Dish TV HD / SD | Dish TV Remote | Rs 399 (MRP Rs 699) |
| Airtel Digital TV HD / SD | Airtel Remote | Rs 399 (MRP Rs 699) |
All three are genuine-fit replacements with the original button layout, batteries included, dispatched within 24 to 48 hours across India.
One thing to be clear about
Remotes are not covered by the one-year warranty that applies to new DTH connections. That warranty covers connections; a remote is an accessory and is excluded. We would rather say so here than have you find out after buying. If a remote arrives faulty, call 9729991794 and we will sort it out.
Can I use any remote?
No. Each platform needs its own remote - a Tata Play remote will not operate a Dish TV box. Buy the one that matches your set-top box.
Ready to book? Every new connection is booked with a Rs 399 advance and the balance is paid at your door on delivery and installation. Questions first? Call 9729991794.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my remote is dead or the box is faulty?
Point the remote at your phone's front camera and press a button. A working infrared remote shows a faint purple-white flash on the screen. No flash means the remote has failed, not the box.
My remote works only from very close. Why?
Almost always weak batteries. Fit a genuinely new pair rather than swapping from another device, and check the contacts for corrosion.
Do I need to pair a new remote?
Usually not - fit the batteries and it responds straight away. If your particular box asks for pairing, there is a short on-screen sequence in the box's own menu that takes under a minute.
Can a Tata Play remote work on a Dish TV box?
No. Each platform needs its own remote. Buy the one that matches your set-top box.
Are replacement remotes covered by warranty?
No. The one-year warranty covers new DTH connections. Remotes are accessories and are not covered. If one arrives faulty, call 9729991794.
How much is a replacement remote?
Rs 399 against an MRP of Rs 699, for Tata Play, Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV, with batteries included.
How quickly will it arrive?
Orders are dispatched within 24 to 48 hours and delivered across India.
Will the new remote control my TV as well?
Basic television functions such as power and volume can normally be set up through the box's on-screen menu. The remote's primary job is operating the set-top box.
